College of Education, formerly named as College of Educational Science and Technology, is also recognized as Tin Ka Ping College of Education overseas.

1. Institutions

The College of Education (COE) comprises the following institutions: Department of Education, Department of Educational Technology, Department of Pre-school Education, Department of Psychology, Institute of Educational Studies and Institute of Psychological Studies, etc. Department of Education is a key base converted from several former institutions renowned for a long history: Department of Home Economics Education of Hwa Nan Women’s College (founded in 1921), Department of Education of Xiamen University (founded in 1922) and Department of Education, Fujian Provincial Teachers School (founded in 1941). Department of Educational Technology set up in 1999 was the expansion of the former major of educational technology in Department of Physics, having its first enrolment in 1979. Department of Pre-school Education and Department of Psychology were both extensions of Department of Education. The College of Education (COE) enjoys its high reputation in teaching and research in the region, and thus was honored in 2007 by the State Ministry of Personnel and Ministry of Education jointly as one of the National Education Advanced Units.

2. Faculties

Currently, COE consists of over 80 members of staff in post, of whom, there are 19 Professors and 23 associate Professors. Out of the total staff, there are 63 teachers awarded master’s degrees, 37 awarded doctorate degrees and 5 are on the job PhD students. In recent years, staff members have been granted with multiple honors: 5 grantees of the Government Special Allowance of the State Council, 1 candidate of theProgram for New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, four candidates of the Program for New Century Excellent Talents of Fujian Universities”, one candidate of the national “Hundred, Thousand and Ten-Thousand Talent Project”, thee candidates of the provincial “Hundred, Thousand and Ten-Thousand Talent Project”, two provincial distinguished teachers, 2 receivers of “Excellent Youth Social science Expert in Fujian”, 1 receiver of Provincial Outstanding Talent, 1 receiver of Provincial University Elite Young Talent in Scientific Research Program, 5 receivers of “ Star Teachers’ Ethics in the University”, 7 receivers of Excellent Performance Teacher in the University, 2 winners of the Top Ten Youth, 2 university-level Outstanding Teacher and 12 potential candidates for Outstanding Young Teacher in the University.

3Disciplinary Development

   COE currently accommodates various levels of programs, namely: 2 post-doctoral research stations (education and psychology respectively); 2 PhD programs for History of Education and Developmental and Educational Psychology with over 30 doctorate students; 1 Category I Master program of education (including 11 Category II Master programs for Principles of Education, Comparative Education, Curriculum and Teaching Theory, History of Education, Educational Technology, Pre-school Education, Adult Education, Higher Education, Vocational and Technical Education, Special Education, Youth and Children Organization and Ideology Awareness); 1 Category I Master program for psychology (including 3 Category II Master programs for Developmental and Educational Psychology, Basic Psychology and Applied Psychology) and 1 Category II Master program of Educational Economics and Management. COE also holds 5 professional Master programs, such as Master in Education (including four research interests as Education Management, Primary College Education, Educational Technology, Preschool Education and Mental Health), Master in Training for University Teachers (including 2 majors as the history of education and developmental and educational psychology), Master in Public Administration (Education Management). Currently, about over 800 students are studying at COE for Master Degrees. Education and Psychology are 2 prestigious programs of the Province and Preschool Education and Educational Technology are both prestigious programs of the University. COE currently provides 5 undergraduate programs: Education Science (having the first recruitment in 1954), Educational Technology (having the first recruitment in 1979), Preschool Education (having the first recruitment in 1986), Psychology (having the first recruitment in 2000) and Primary College Education (1993-1998 for junior degrees, 2011 for bachelor degrees and 2015 having PGCE students). Among these orientations, Education Science and Psychology are 2 key special majors at the provincial level while Preschool Education and Educational Technology are key special majors at the university level. The year 2017 witnesses over 1600 undergraduate students studying at COE. Apart from the responsibility for teaching of its own college students, COE also takes responsibility for teaching in other colleges across 3 Master programs of Education and 10 teacher training programs for the university.

    COE is also a base for 3 Provincial University for the West Taiwan Straits Development Key Projects, 2 Provincial Key Disciplines (Developmental and Educational Psychology, Curriculum and Teaching Theory), 1 Provincial Research Centre for Humanities and Social Sciences (Fujian Provincial Research Center for Basic Education and Teacher Education), 1 University-level Key Discipline (Comparative Education). In addition, COE publishes its own Journal of Domestic and Foreign Education. In the past five years, the COE staffs have bided 120 research projects at various levels with a huge volume of publication of over 100 academic books and teaching materials, close to 1,000 research papers of these, over 20 prizes of various levels are awarded. Besides, COE also attaches great importance to academic exchanges. More than 300 personnel took part in the academic exchanges at home and abroad with more than 300 personnel of scholars are benefactors of such academic exchanges. COE boasts 1 National Quality Course, 6 Provincial Quality Courses and 8 University Quality Courses, 2 Provincial and university teaching team respectively, 2 prestigious programs of the Province (the major of education and the major of psychology), 2 Provincial Talent Innovation Centers (psychology and educational technology), 2 Provincial Model Center for Experiment Teaching (Psychological Experiment Center, Digital Media Technology Experiment Center), 1  Provincial Project for Major Comprehensive Reform (education) and 1 Provincial Trial Project for College Students’ Innovation.
